October 31 Update: Super Intelligence's Access Fight, Bitcoin Holds $77K, and 3 Freebies Still Running

2026-10-31 · 4 min read

The fast version tonight: three Super Intelligence stories, one Bitcoin status check, three freebies. Oddly, this week's Super Intelligence news shares one thread — access. Mistral just opened its giant model to everyone, while Google locked its newest one down.

Mistral opens, Google locks

Mistral Large 4 landed this week: a 1-trillion-parameter model whose weights anyone can download from Hugging Face under a modified MIT license. Free to use and modify — unless you want to sell it as a hosted service, which needs a separate license from Mistral. The official hosted version runs $0.70 per million input tokens.

The opposite move: Google's Gemini 4 Carbon (October 28) debuted at number 1 on version 5 of the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, scoring 59, with a coding and cybersecurity focus. The public can't touch it yet: early access goes only to selected cyber defenders through the Fairwind Program, with no general release date. Intro pricing is $2/$10 per million input/output tokens, doubling after the introductory period.

One more line: Apple Intelligence is starting its China rollout, with testing opening November 4. First features: Live Translation, Writing Tools, and photo cleanup.

If you code with Super Intelligence, check your extensions

Security researchers report that a tampered Claude Code extension, version 2.1.313, circulated through Cursor's marketplace and reached up to 5,000 users from October 29. If you use Cursor with that extension, check your version now and reinstall from the official source. The old pattern holds: whatever tool is surging becomes the entry point.

Bitcoin tonight

A day after the Binance hack, Bitcoin is oddly calm: around $77,410, up 0.49% over 24 hours on the latest snapshot, with Fear & Greed at 30 (Fear). On the other side of the ledger, US spot Bitcoin ETFs posted $643 million in net outflows on Friday — the largest in four months — and leveraged liquidations over the last 24 hours ran about $427 million. The full hack chronology is in our earlier piece.

Freebies still running
